NAN’S world of ART

I grew up liking art, but never pursuing it as a vocation until I joined my sister’s Display Company.  I never took lessons, so basically was self-taught. We decorated major shopping malls throughout the U.S. for the holiday season and my department was “Animation”... making movable life-size adaptations from my sister’s designs.  It was much, much later that I tried painting and fell in love with it.  It was at this point, that I found a teacher who taught me the “limited palette” technique of watercolor and I’ll never go back to the conventional umpteen number of tubes!  Not sure what style you would call my work, because it is contemporary realism with a touch of conceptual!  Then there will be a few that are abstract, and impressionistic among a number of illustrations.   My subject matter ranges all the way from serious to silly!  The whimsical, one-of-a-kind ladies with their outlandish earrings and hats, were “born” about 5 years ago and they launched me into the world of watercolor.  Their eclectic sense of humor reminds us not to take ourselves too serious.  (Mirror, mirror, on the wall...

you’ve GOT to be kidding!)  As you can tell, I LOVE variety in my life and it ultimately seeps over into my choice of subject matter.

When I took the grandchildren’s pictures to paint from,

I asked each one to give me a “silly” face; a “happy” face; and a “melancholy” face.  This is what they came up with and it represents each of their personalities perfectly.
